Great Kids Healthy Snacks is a monthly subscription service that delivers healthy snacks ideal for lunchboxes, midday pick-me-ups, afterschool snacks, road trips, and after-dinner treats.
So far, I’ve opened three boxes and devoured a lot of tasty snacks.
Along the way, I’ve learned the following things about this healthy food subscription:
1. Regular or Gluten-Free Snacks
You can order two different kinds of monthly subscription boxes: regular and gluten-free.
Gluten-containing grains and ingredients include wheat, rye, barley, malt, and semolina.
Common foods that contain gluten include your average pasta, crackers, cookies, baked goods, cereal, breaded foods, and much more. The Celiac Disease Foundation has a more detailed list, including foods with “hidden” gluten.
Doctors often recommend a gluten-free diet for celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Avoiding foods with gluten can also be helpful for some people battling certain medical conditions, like irritable bowel syndrome and type 1 diabetes.
I currently receive 30 gluten-free snacks every month, and that’s more than enough for me.
P.S. This is by choice and not because I have a medical condition.
2. Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, and Treats
A Great Kids Healthy Snacks box contains items that you can eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and treats.
Modern Oats premium oatmeal is a frequent goodie in the Great Kids Healthy Snacks subscription box (a great way to start the morning!). I’ve received Coconut Almond a couple of times, and now the Vermont Maple, which is one of their newest oatmeal flavors.
The flavorful oatmeal is made with certified gluten-free whole grain rolled oats, vermont pure maple sugar, brown sugar, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, cinnamon, and cardamom.
There was a nice amount of pumpkin seeds. I felt the cardamom had a stronger flavor than the cinnamon. I really didn’t taste a maple flavor, but the oatmeal was really good! To prepare the oatmeal, pour enough boiling hot water to cover the oats. Place the lid on top, and then steep for 3 minutes. Stir well and then devour.
3. 20 or 30 Snacks
You can order the Healthy Snack Plan with 20 or 30 snacks or the Healthy Snack Gluten-Free Plan with 30 snacks.
Payment Options: You can select to pay on a monthly basis, three months upfront, or six months upfront.
Click here for more information about the different subscriptions and their cost.
4. Repeat Snacks in Each Box
Unlike other subscription boxes, you won’t get an entirely new lineup of 30 snacks each month; there will be some repeats. In every Great Kids Healthy Snacks box I’ve received so far, the following snacks have been included:
- Hippeas Maple Haze chickpea snacks
- Peeled Snacks Paradise Found dried fruit
- The cherry One Bar
- GoGo Squeez Boulder Berry fruit & veggies on the go pouch
Peeled Snacks and OneBar personally put a smile on my face every time I see them. I can’t get enough of them.
5. Discover New Snack Brands and Flavors
I always discover new brands and flavors in each Great Kids Healthy Snacks box.
This time around, I was introduced to the following:
Caveman Dark Chocolate Caramel Cashew Nutrition Bar is a paleo-inspired, certified gluten-free snack made with all-natural ingredients. One of the first things I noticed with this bar was the sickeningly sweet caramel scent. Despite this, the taste is a surprise. The bar has a light chocolate drizzle and a solid chocolate coating on the backside. It has the texture and taste of a dessert-like granola bar. The sunflower seeds, caramel, and chocolate also stood out to me.
The bar has a deliciously nutty flavor. I love it!
Other ingredients in the bar include sesame seeds, flax seeds, almonds, and pumpkin seeds.
I’d definitely buy this bar if I saw it in the store.
Picky Bars (Cookie Doughpness Cinnamon Blazin’ Raisin) is a real food bar that contains non-GMO and organic ingredients, offering 7 grams of protein (14% of your recommended daily value – RDV) and 3 grams of fiber (10% RDV). Peanut butter and dates are the first two ingredients listed. One whiff of the bar, and I get oatmeal cinnamon raisin vibes.
However, the initial taste is all peanut butter, with a hint of cinnamon, some crunchiness, and a bit of raisin.
It reminds me of a Larabar, but drier and more peanut buttery. It’s edible, but I’m really not a fan.
6. Special Offers, Discounts & Promo Codes
Each subscription box typically has special offers and discounts, like promo codes to take 20% off your next online order of Vermont Smoke & Cure snacks or save 10% off one case of Wonderwell purified flavored water.
7. Buy in Bulk
Not only do you get a steady supply of healthy snacks with a Great Kids subscription box, but you also get a chance to find ‘new favorites’ you may want to buy in bulk…something that you can do directly on the company’s website.
8. Drinks and Other Healthy Items Included
Your Great Kids Healthy Snacks box may contain drinks and other healthy products, like the two Wonder + Well waters and Dr. Pops Zinc + Vitamin C dietary supplement lollipops in my past shipment. Wonder + Well is new to me.
