Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) – Baby Deer, Donkey, Owl and Landscape

An artist trading card ‘PAT‘ means that you get to pick-a-theme, and have a group of artists interpret it in the way they see fit.

Other factors come into play, such as the type of mediums you can use, but overall, it’s fun to receive an assortment of art cards that fit your specific requests. Also, more often than not, you are challenged by the variety of themes you are expected to satisfy. I know there have been a few themes that were difficult for me to maneuver. This time around, I had to create the following hand-drawn or hand-painted ATCs for participants:

The Cards I Made

Mid May PAT - Baby Deer for LucyMc

LucyMC Requested: Woodland creature

I chose a baby deer because I thought I would have the most fun making her. Using the white Gelly Roll pen to add spots to her coat really helped enhance the overall detail.

Materials Used: Sharpie Pen, Watercolor Pencils, and white Gelly Roll Pen

Mid May PAT - Donkey with Colorful Saddle Blanket_Flowers for smallgirl

Smallgirl Requested: Donkey with colorful saddle blanket and/or flowers

When I first read this theme, I really didn’t know where to start. I never drew a donkey before, and I was worried that it would turn out looking like a horse. I’m pleased with the outcome. I love color, so I enjoyed adding flowers around the donkey’s neck.

Materials Used: Sharpie Pen, Watercolor Pencils, and white Gelly Roll Pen

Mid May PAT - Landscape for plumhill2001

Plumhill2001 Requested: Landscape

Landscapes are not my thing, so I was kind of dreading this challenge. Working with watercolors for landscapes isn’t so bad. I did a tree-lined stream with mountains in the background.

Materials Used: Pencil and Watercolor Pencils

Mid May PAT - Whimsical Owl for prex79

Prex79 Requested: Owl (real or whimsical)

I chose to create a whimsical owl because it would allow me to incorporate bolder colors.

Materials Used: Sharpie Pen, Watercolor Pencils, silver Gel Pen, and white Gelly Roll Pen

The Cards that I Received

In honor of our pooch Rosey, I requested Chihuahuas from my trade partners, and this is what I received:

Chihuahuas from Artist Card Swap

The artist trading card by prex79 really reminds me of Rosey. I was going to show it to my nephew, but I know he would snatch it out of my hands, run, and cause World War III.

What theme would you want an artist to draw for you? or what card do you like best?

  1. Oh my goodness! This looks like so much fun! I wish I could join! I love drawing, but I’ve slowly converted into digital drawings, so I’m slowly losing touch with traditional media. I try to practice my pencils every now and then to keep myself from being rusty.

Have a look at my gallery on my page and do feel free to leave a message for some constructive comments, if you could. Again. I love your artwork! Amazing!

This is something I’ve never heard of before, and I love it! My favorite that you did was the owl. I think I’d probably pick books or a flower garden. I wish I was an artist so I could participate in something like this.

  12. Well I can’t draw to save my life so you win on that score. I love your whimsical owl its a beaut but I would also like to see something like fantasy/cubism/ surrealism/street art as I am into that scene.
