Even though my brother says the larger plate looks like a ‘fancy ashtray,’ I know what it’s supposed to represent. The Book Shaped Plate featured above is one of three pieces that I purchased from Gone Reading, which joins a book-shaped saucer and stackable cup I ordered.
Made from porcelain, the bright white plate measures 8.5 x 8.5 inches, and is quite striking against a dark-colored table. The saucer I bought measures nearly 5-1/2″ square, and is accompanied by a cup (purchased separately) that holds 6 ounces of liquid. The book-shaped items are dishwasher, oven and microwave safe.
Gone Reading sells two types of book-shaped tableware:
- Discounted irregular
Because the irregular items have slight imperfections, they are sold at a fraction of the cost, so the 8.5-inch plate that I bought for $6.99 is originally priced at $13.99. A note from the company alerts shoppers to expect “up to three small discolorations, pock marks or similar imperfections” that are generally the size of a pencil tip.
After reading reviews from customers who have purchased the irregular items, I decided this was the way for me to go. I was willing to take the chance, and I was not disappointed in the quality of the ‘irregular’ items.
I can easily overlook the couple of tiny black dots, especially since I am the only person using these items. The visual blemishes are nothing to cry about – well worth the frugalness.
Gone Reading also sells book-shaped serving platters, platter sets, and other items that make ideal gifts for book lovers – from Alphabook Journals to a Harry Potter Coloring Kit.
