I’ve purchased camera lens coffee mugs on three different occasions, and each time, I coveted these eye-catchingly designed novelty items. My brother is a photographer, and surprisingly, he hasn’t lost or broke his…so I know he really likes it. I bought one for a prize in a blog giveaway, and purchased one to give to my partner in a coffee mug exchange. When the opportunity came around for me to get one at a deep discount in exchange for my honest review, I jumped at the chance…and I definitely got a better deal out of it.
For starters, the craftsmanship of the Indie Camera Gear Camera Lens Coffee Mug is on point. It looks just like a camera lens with realistic markings, words, numbers and other features. Aside from the fabulous detail, the mug is made with a stainless steel interior and ABS food-grade plastic exterior that is BPA free. There are two separate strips of rubber grip on the outside of the mug that I really like. It feels nice on the hands. To me, a filled mug with or without the lid on can comfortably hold up to 12 ounces of liquid.
While my first sips of coffee flowed nicely from the opening, the next time I went to drink, it had a very slow stream of liquid. It drove me crazy. I went to see if other people had the same issue, and one person mentioned in a previous review that it was because the air holes on the lid didn’t line up. I used a push pin to force an opening for the little air hole…and now my sips are ‘regular.’ Also, the lid of the mug seals tight, but if you hold it upside down, you will encounter drip drops, so it’s safe to say that this mug is meant exclusively for standing in an upright position.
Not only did I receive a sturdy lil’ travel mug with this purchase, but it also came with a camera-shaped 16GB USB flash drive that is too cute for words. I love the novelty of it, but I personally wouldn’t use it for anything too important…and will probably set it aside for a quick run to Kinko’s to have copies made…or something like that. Nothing personal, but I don’t want to turn ‘cutesy’ into an ‘I-lost-everything-I-spent-days-working-on’ cry-face.
All in all, I think the novelty of both the mug and USB flash drive makes this a really nice gift for a photographer or photography enthusiast.
What do you think about this mug?
