As a dog lover, I enjoy participating in artist trading card swaps that incorporate a canine theme, so when the In the Dog House swap was announced – I knew I had to join.
This time around, the objective was to create a mixed media trading card measuring 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches that satisfied the following:
- incorporate a dog
- the card itself had to be in the shape of a dog house
The Cards that I Made…
Just like many of the participants in this group, I incorporated dogs from the past and present into my cards that have been in my life, with the exception of the Pit Bull.
Tink the Chihuahua
Materials Used: glitter gel pen, fine-point Sharpie pen, magazine cut-out
I currently have a Chihuahua-Boston mix named Rosey in my life, so that’s where the inspiration for the Tink card came from.
Scraps the Terrier
Materials Used: glitter gel pen, fine-point Sharpie pen, colored pencil
I had a terrier mix named Scraps that looked similar to the rough sketch peeking through the opening of this dog house.
Oz
Materials Used: glitter gel pen, fine-point Sharpie pen, colored pencil
I had a Black Lab-Chow mix with a polka dot tongue named Oz. Although the Zentangle dog featured in the card looks nothing like him, I used his name on the dog house.
Pit Bull
Materials Used: glitter gel pen, fine-point Sharpie pen, magazine cut-out
I built a majestic-looking Zentangle dog house with shimmering gold accents for this muscular pit bull.
The Cards that I Received…
The following cards that I received came from Rosa in Maine (‘Trust’ dog); qkenzie in Ottawa, Canada; and ohhappyday in Nebraska (I think this is my first card from this state), who made the ‘I feel so lucky dog’.
So, the ‘Billy’ card below paid homage to the memory of qkenzie’s pet, and what’s really cool about it is that it moves, and you get to extend the size of the Dachshund. Love it!
CastleQueen 5 was the host of this dog-themed ATCs for All card swap.
Not only did she decorate all of the envelopes with stamps and color, but she also included a few die cut goodies. The following is a dog, bone and ball that I absolute love because it was cut from a Starbucks coffee sleeve.
