Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred

Posted on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

jillian30dayshredSince I purchased my Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred DVD on eBay, I thought I’d been bamboozled when first popping it into the player. A loud Lionsgate Film promo vibrated throughout the room. Soon after, Jillian appeared after a Biggest Loser’s advertisement (a good one I might add because I now want the Cardio and Strength Training exercise DVDs based on the TV show).

The Lowdown

There are 3 progressively challenging 20-minute workout programs to select. Jillian Michaels uses a 3-2-1- Interval System that blends cardio, strength, and abs training. All you need is a pair of hand weights and a mat if you’re not exercising on a carpet, which in that case – grab a towel. Then, grab a towel for your face and neck because I guarantee that you’re going to sweat within those 20 minutes.

The 20-minute workout in a nutshell:

  • Warm-Up (2 min)
  • Three 6-Minute Circuits: Strength (3min); Cardio (2min); and Abs (1min)
  • Cool Down (2 min)

Since I’m only on Day 1 of the first level of 30-Day Shred training, I can’t speak on the entire 30-day experience and hopefully, in about a month – I can. So, my initial thoughts on this exercise DVD are:

Warm-Up (2 min) – Loosens up and awakens the entire body with warm-up exercises that target the arms, back, shoulders, and knee caps.

Three 6-Minute Circuits

* Strength (3min) – With light weights in hand, you’ll feel the burn because Jillian likes to engage little and big muscles in combination exercises that makes the sweat pour.

* Cardio (2min) – Good ol’ jumping jacks, phantom jump roping, boxing punches, and butt kicks are included. These are fun.

* Abs (1min) – A variety of crunches that use your elbows, crossed legs, and cross-body movement – love the way she instructs you on how to do a proper crunch.

Cool Down (2 min) – Stretching is a great way to cap off a workout session and I can honestly say, when done right, these stretches feel really good – both liberating and relaxing.

Overall, the workout is quick, but efficient. After completing my first session, I was glad that I stuck with it and most importantly, that it was over. However, I was left with a great sense of accomplishment. Jillian packs quite a workout punch in only 20 minutes.
