Larabar has an extensive line of gluten free goodies, and recently, I learned that the company sells a minty-flavored, chocolate fruit and nut bar made with at least 20% Fair Trade ingredients, like cocoa powder. As I browsed the ‘healthy’ section of Wegmans grocery store for a gluten free snack, the words ‘Mint Chip Brownie‘ caught my eye. Also, green is my favorite color, and the packaging drew me in…I think it’s the cutest thing.
Made with Fair Trade certified chocolate, the Mint Chip Brownie Larabar contains semisweet chocolate chips that are made with unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, and vanilla extract. The rest of the ingredients in the bar are dates, almonds, cashews, fair-trade cocoa powder, and peppermint oil, which gives the bar a distinctively cool scent. The intermittent, sweet pop of semisweet chocolate chips is a welcomed addition to the bar.
I should point out that while many Larabar options are sugar-free (as in no additional sugar is added to the natural ingredients), there is sugar used to make the semisweet chocolate chips.
One bar equals ¼ cup of fruit, and is 190 calories. You also get the following dietary benefits: potassium (8% RDV – recommended daily value), 4 grams of fiber (16% RDV), 4 grams of protein, and iron (10% RDV).

If you’re looking for something that satisfies a chocolate craving, then I would recommend this bar. It delivers a healthy dose of mint chocolate flavor to your taste buds. This isn’t one of my favorite Larabar flavors, but I think it’s a pleasant one to have from time to time.
