Teriyaki Madness is a restaurant chain that primarily specializes in selling made-to-order food bowls using fresh ingredients, from chicken breast to tofu to noodles – tossed and topped with housemade sauces. I’ve been to Teriyaki Madness in Camillus, NY three times since it’s opening in March. It’s actually the only Teriyaki Madness in New York State, so we should feel lucky to have one in our own backyard. Also, if you follow a gluten free diet, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of options to consider.
During my first visit, I went during the week and instantly declared Teriyaki Madness my ‘new favorite.’ We ordered 2 bowls and 1 plate with 2 proteins with the following: Spicy Chicken (pretty good [below]), White Breast Chicken (not sauce-drenched [above]), and Beef Teriyaki (very tasty) with fried rice and stir-fry veggies. The meats were well-cooked and flavorful. The bowls were well-packed. The veggie mix is cabbage-heavy with sizeable pieces of produce (which I don’t mind).
My Dad didn’t say anything negative about his bowl…and even declared it ‘pretty good.’ (…and that is a rarity). My order was ready in less than 20 minutes, and service was friendly, helpful and patient.
The second time I went to Teriyaki Madness, I went on a weekend and ordered 2 Beef Teriyaki bowls – one with stir fry veggies and the other with veggies and fried rice. I was extremely disappointed and turned off (p’ed off, really) by the unappetizing, bland, soggy white rice mixed with soy sauce/veggies/egg (which was supposed to be fried rice)…especially since I got what I would call ‘real’ fried rice the last time I ordered. I should have taken a photo of the second rice, but was too distracted by my unhappiness to bother, and I initially didn’t think I was going to blog about it…but the more I thought about it, the more annoyed I got. Despite this, the beef was still really good and I had such a positive visit last time that I knew I’d return again.
Redeeming third visit! I decided to give Teriyaki Madness another shot, and ordered the Chicken Katsu (white meat chicken fried with a crunchy coating kind of similar to chicken parm) and Orange Chicken (dark meat chicken served with a sweet orange glaze). I did not order rice, but opted for all veggies, and was pleased with the overall quality of food.
After this visit, I have now tried all of the meat options from the Teriyaki Madness menu. I absolutely love the Beef Teriyaki, and will order the Spicy Chicken again from time to time. I’ve always had quick and friendly service here. Staff members take their time and seem happy to explain menu options and make suggestions when needed. I’ve read other reviews that state prices are slightly higher than expected, but you are getting higher quality meat…and if you sign up for their CLUB MAD, they send coupons where you can save money! Overall, I think Teriyaki Madness makes a refreshing addition to Camillus’ Township 5.
