Snyder’s made an appearance at our Taste of Syracuse to provide us with samples of their ‘Wholey Cheese’ line of crispy baked crackers. We got to take home three snack bags. As a cheese lover, I was excited to come across these snacks, especially since they are certified gluten free. Made with real cheese, ‘Wholey Cheese’ crackers are naturally flavored and made with colors from natural sources, such as turmeric.
The .75-ounce cracker snack packs are equal to or less than 100 calories. They don’t offer much in the fiber or protein department, but manage to squeak in 4% of your recommended daily value for calcium. For the most part, the crackers are crispy, but there are a few stragglers that are deceptively hard in texture. With these, you anticipate something light, airy and crunchy, but then your teeth are met with something much harder.
The flavors we got to try include:
The Swiss & Black Pepper (90 calories) is flavorful, has less of a detectable cheese taste, and offers a spicy kick of pepper that sets this cracker crisp apart from the others. If you like peppery snacks, then you will definitely enjoy this flavor.
The Mild Cheddar (100 calories) has a distinctively strong cheddar flavor that I really like. The ‘real cheese’ flavor really shines through here.
The Smoked Gouda (100 calories) is my least favorite flavor of the trio. It’s odd, but my nephew and I both detected a bacon-y aftertaste. Perhaps it is the natural smoke flavor used…I’m not sure. I’d eat these crackers if they were in the house, but I wouldn’t go out and purchase these on my own.
Have you tried these crackers; what do you think?
